A condensing optical system (1) is provided with: a surface light-emitting light source (11) which emits light from a light-emitting surface (12); a collimating lens (13) as a collimating optical system for converting the light emitted from the light-emitting surface (12) into substantially parallel light; a condensing lens (4) as a condensing optical system for condensing the light converted into substantially parallel light; and an integrator rod (8) as a light-intensity-distribution uniformizing element, which has an incidence plane (81) on which the light condensed by the condensing lens (4) is incident, and which makes the light intensity distribution of the incident light uniform and emits the incident light from an emission plane (82). The converging angle of the light condensed on a centre section of the incidence plane (81), among the light condensed on the incident plane (81) of the integrator rod (8), is configured so as to be smaller than the converging angle of the light condensed on corner sections of the incidence plane (81).
