Description:
CONNECTING PIECE FOR A FLASHING OF A PIPE DUCT IN A TILED ROOF

The present invention concerns a connecting piece for a flashing of a pipe duct in a tiled roof.

In connection with different types of pipe ducts to be made at a tiled roof the sheet metal worker has to provide flashings for them.

If the pipe duct is at the pane of the tiled roof at a distance from the ridge tile of the roof, the flashing continues generally as a smooth metal sheet up to the ridge so that the upper end of it will be remain under the ridge tile. It is also known that to use a lead plate, which is formed by a hammer so that gets a tile shaped profile, whereby it can be mounted between two successive tiles. This work is relatively slow and nowadays the use of a lead plate is forbidden for environmental reasons.

The object of the present invention is to provide a simple and fast solution for flashing of a pipe duct in a tiled roof. This is achieved with a connecting piece for a flashing of a pipe duct in a tiled roof, which is characterized in that it comprises a portion of hard plastics having a substantially even surface extending flash to a ridge plane of the roof tiles and having a groove being open away from the connecting piece for receiving an upper end of the flashing and extending along the whole length of the connecting piece, said groove continuing at both of its ends straight downwards for receiving a fold formed at both sides of the flashing, as well as a flexible portion of plastic rubber connected to the portion of hard plastics of the connection piece and being shaped to correspond to an average profile shape of roof tiles and having at its profiled free end an upwards directed wall in the regions between the ridges of the profile, which end is intended to be positioned between the tiles in the first row and second row of roof tiles at the ridge side of the pipe duct. In this way a very neat joint is provided between the flashing and the tiles.

Both flanks of the connecting piece are preferably provided with a vertical side wall extending from the groove receiving the flashing to a region, which when mounted, will be put below the tiles. In this way water or snow is prevented from penetrating into the roof structures at the flanks of the connecting piece.

The groove receiving the upper end of the flashing is preferably provided with upper and lower centering ribs, which are intended to keep the upper end of the flashing in the middle of the groove, which will ensure that a sealing compound such as silicon, which is filled into said groove before the upper end of the flashing is pushed into the groove, is uniformly distributed at both sides of the flashing. The connecting piece is preferably fixed to a bottom plate of the pipe duct by screws at its portion of hard plastics.

In order to provide a result as neat as possible the connecting piece is produced in the same color as the tiled roof, simultaneously as the color of the flashing is selected to suit the color of the tiled roof.

In the following the invention will be described in more detail by referring to the enclosed drawings, wherein: Fig. 1 discloses as a perspective view a connecting piece according to the invention,

Fig. 2 discloses as a perspective view how the connecting piece is mounted at a tiled roof before fitting the flashing, Fig, 3 discloses a section of the end of hard plastics of the mounted connecting piece in a larger scale, and

Fig. 4 discloses a section of the end of plastic rubber of the mounted connecting piece in a larger scale.

The connecting piece 1 for a flashing 6 of a pipe duct in a tiled roof shown in the figures comprises a portion la of hard plastics having a substantially even surface extending flash to a ridge plane of the roof tiles and having a groove 2 being open away from the connecting piece 1 for receiving an upper end of the flashing 6 and extending along the whole length of the connecting piece 1, which groove 2 continues at both of its ends straight downwards so that it is able to receive a fold 6a formed at both sides of the flashing 6. A flexible portion 3 of plastic rubber is connected to the portion la of hard plastics of the connection piece 1, which flexible portion 3 is shaped to correspond to an average profile shape of roof tiles 5. An upward directed wall 4 is provided at the profiled free end of the flexible portion 3 in the regions between the ridges of the profile. This end is intended to be positioned between the tiles 5 in the first row 5a and the second row 5b at the ridge side of the pipe duct, where it due to its flexibility is formed to the profile shape of the roof tiles 5 being used.

In this way a very neat joint is provided between the flashing 6 and the tiles 5. The connecting piece 1 is preferably produced in the same color as the tiles 5 of the tiled roof and the color of the flashing 6 is selected to suit the color of the roof tiles 5

Both flanks of the connecting piece 1 are preferably provided with a vertical side wall lb extending from the groove 2 receiving the flashing 6 to a region, which when mounted, will be put below the tiles 5, .preventing effectively water, snow or dirt from penetrating into the roof structures..

The groove 2receiving the upper end of the flashing 6 is provided with upper and lower centering ribs 7, which keep the upper end of the flashing 6 in the middle of the groove 2, as will more clearly appear from Fig. 3. Before pushing the flashing 6 into the groove 2, as shown by arrow A in, Fig. 2, the groove 2 should be filled with a sealing compound 8. Due to the centering ribs 7 it will also be ensured that the sealing compound 8 is uniformly distributed at both sides of the flashing 6 in the groove 2. Fixing of the connecting piece can for instance be carried out by means of screws to a bottom plate 10 of the pie duct the portion la of hard plastics of the connecting piece 1, by using a rubber spacer 11 between the head of the screw 9 and the connecting piece 1 in order to provide a sufficient seal.
