Abstract:
A connection assembly comprises a first and second components having respective first and second engagement portions, and a third component. The first and second components are adapted to be engaged together via the first and second engagement portions such as to define a space therebetween. The third component is adapted to be longitudinally introduced in the space and to forcibly displace the first and second engagement portions outwardly, thereby connecting the first and second components together. Furthermore, a method comprises assembling the components and longitudinally introducing the third component in the space to forcibly displace the first and second engagement portions outwardly, thereby connecting the first and second components together.

AMENDED CLAIMS

CLAIMS

1. A connection assembly, comprising:

first and second components having respective first and second

engagement portions;

a third component;

said first and second components being adapted to be engaged together via the first and second engagement portions such as to define a space

therebetween;

the third component being adapted to be longitudinally introduced in the space and to forcibly displace the first and second engagement portions

outwardly, thereby connecting the first and second components together.

2. The connection assembly of claim 1 , wherein the third component is made of rigid material.

3. The connection assembly of claim 1, wherein the third component generates force components in multiple directions on the first component portion and the second component portion according to a xy plane perpendicular to the

longitudinal insertion orientation of the third component.

4. The connection assembly of claim 1 , further comprising a connection

component comprising the third component and having a head, wherein the head is engagement-free from the first component portion and the second component portion.

5. The connection assembly of claim 1 , wherein the third component has an engagement waif having a geometry similar to a wall section of the first component portion to be engaged to.

6. The connection assembly of claim 1, wherein the first component portion has a first length, the second component portion has a second length, and the third component has a third length, and wherein the first length and the second length are greater than the third length.

7. The connection assembly of claim 1, wherein the first engagement portion and the second engagement portion have an identical geometry.

8. The connection assembly of claim 1, wherein the first engagement portion provides a female connection function and the second engagement portion provides a male connection function, whereby, when the first and second components are engaged together, the second portion is inserted into the first portion.

9. The connection assembly of claim 1, wherein one of the first engagement portion and the second engagement portion has a hook shape.

10. The connection assembly of claim 1 , wherein the first engagement portion has a first wall section and a second wall section, and wherein, when the third component is inserted into the space, the first wall section is engaged with the second engagement portion and the second wall section is engaged with the third component.

11. The connection assembly of claim 10, wherein the first engagement portion comprises a third wall section located between the first wall section and the second wall section, and wherein, when the third component is inserted into the space, the third wall section is engagement-free.

12. The connection assembly of claim 1 , wherein the first engagement portion includes a groove adapted to be engaged with the third component.

13. The connection assembly of claim 1, further comprising:

a third-prime component and a fourth component having a fourth

engagement portion, with the first component further comprising a first-prime engagement portion distinct from the first engagement portion,

wherein the first component and fourth component are adapted to be engaged together via the first-prime engagement portion and the fourth

engagement portion when the third-prime component is introduced therebetween and forcibly displaces the first-prime and fourth engagement portions outwardly.

14. The connection assembly of claim 13, wherein the first engagement portion and the first-prime engagement portion have identical geometries.

15. The connection assembly of claim 13, wherein the first component has first and first-prime faces and wherein the first and first-prime engagement portions are disposed with respect to the first and first-prime faces respectively.

The connection assembly of claim 13, further comprising a connection component comprising the third component, the third-prime component and a head, wherein the connection component is adapted so that the third component is adapted to be introduced between the first component portion and the second component portion and the third-prime component to be introduced between the first-prime component portion and the fourth component portion.

17. The connection assembly of claim 16, wherein the connection component comprises a hole with a first shoulder, the connection assembly further comprising a releasing component having a second shoulder,

25 wherein the releasing component is adapted to be introduced in the hole and to release engagement of the first and second components when the first and second shoulders are engaged as to apply a longitudinal pulling force away from the first and second engagement portions.

The connection assembly of claim 16, wherein the first engagement portion has a double-hook shape and wherein the connection component is adapted so that the third and third-prime components are adapted to be introduced between the first component portion and the second component portion with respect to a first hook-shape portion and a second hook-shape portion of the first engagement portion.

19. The connection assembly of claim 1 , wherein the first, second and third components are parts of a furniture article.

20. A method of connecting components into an assembly, comprising:

assembling a first and a second components having respectively a first and second engagement portions such as to engage together the first and the second engagement portions to define a space therebetween; and

longitudinally introducing a third component in the space to forcibly displace the first and second engagement portions outwardly, thereby connecting the first component and the second component together.

21. The method of connection components into an assembly of claim 20, further comprising before the step of introducing the third component:

assembling the first component and a fourth component having respectively a first-prime and fourth engagement portions such as to engage together the first and fourth engagement portions to define a second space,

wherein, when longitudinally introducing the third component, a third-prime

26 component structurally combined with the third component is longitudinally introduced in the second space to forcibly displace the first-prime and fourth engagement portions outwardly, thereby connecting the first-prime component and the fourth component together.

22. A connection assembly, comprising:

first and second components having respective first and second

engagement portions;

a third component;

said first and second components being adapted to be engaged together via the first and second engagement portions such as to define a space

therebetween;

the third component being adapted to be longitudinally introduced in the space and to forcibly displace the first and second engagement portions outwardly, thereby connecting the first and second components together.

23. The connection assembly of claim 22, wherein the third component is made of rigid material.

24. The connection assembly of any one of claims 22 and 23, wherein the third component generates force components in multiple directions on the first component and the second component according to a xy plane substantially perpendicularly to a longitudinal insertion orientation of the third component.

25. The connection assembly of any one of claims 22 to 24, further comprising a connection component comprising the third component and having a head, wherein the head is engagement-free from the first component and the second component.

26. The connection assembly of any one of claims 22 to 25, wherein the third component has an engagement wall having a geometry substantially

complimentary to a wall section of the first component to be engaged therewith.

27. The connection assembly of any one of claims 22 to 26, wherein the first component has a first length, the second component has a second length, and the third component has a third length, and wherein the first length and the second length are greater than the third length.

28. The connection assembly of any one of claims 22 to 27, wherein the first engagement portion and the second engagement portion have one of substantially identical geometries and substantially mirror-like geometries.

29. The connection assembly of any one of claims 22 to 28, wherein the first engagement portion provides a female connection function and the second engagement portion provides a male connection function, whereby, when the first and second components are engaged together, the second portion is Inserted into the first portion.

30. The connection assembly of any one of claims 22 to 29, wherein at least one of the first engagement portion and the second engagement portion has a hook shape.

The connection assembly of any one of claims 22 to 30, wherein the first engagement portion has a first wall section and a second wall section, and wherein, when the third component is inserted into the space, the first wall section is engaged with the second engagement portion and the second wall section is engaged with the third component.

32. The connection assembly of claim 31, wherein the first engagement portion comprises a third wall section located between the first wall section and the second wail section, and wherein, when the third component is inserted into the space, the third wall section is engagement-free.

33. The connection assembly of any one of claims 22 to 32, wherein the first engagement portion includes a groove adapted to be engaged with the third component.

34. The connection assembly of any one of claims 22 to 33, further comprising: a third-prime component and a fourth component having a fourth

engagement portion, with the first component further comprising a first-prime engagement portion distinct from the first engagement portion,

wherein the first component and fourth component are adapted to be engaged together via the first-prime engagement portion and the fourth

engagement portion when the third-prime component is introduced therebetween and forcibly displaces the first-prime and fourth engagement portions outwardly.

35. The connection assembly of claim 34, wherein the first engagement portion and the first-prime engagement portion have substantially identical geometries.

36. The connection assembly of any one of claims 34 to 35, wherein the first component has first and first-prime faces and wherein the first and first-prime engagement portions are disposed with respect to the first and first-prime faces respectively.

37. The connection assembly of any one of claims 34 to 36, further comprising a connection component comprising the third component, the third-prime component

29 and a head, wherein the connection component is adapted so that the third component is adapted to be introduced between the first component and the second component and the third-prime component is introduced between the first- prime component and the fourth component.

38. The connection assembly of claim 37, wherein the connection component comprises a hole with a first shoulder, the connection assembly further comprising a releasing component having a second shoulder,

wherein the releasing component is adapted to be introduced in the hole and to release engagement of the first and second components when the first and second shoulders are engaged as to apply a longitudinal pulling force away from the first and second engagement portions.

39. The connection assembly of claim 37, wherein the first engagement portion has a double-hook shape and wherein the connection component is adapted so that the third and third-prime components are adapted to be introduced between the first component portion and the second component portion with respect to a first hook-shape portion and a second hook-shape portion of the first engagement portion.

40. The connection assembly of any one of claims 22 to 39, wherein the first, second and third components are parts of a furniture article.

41. The connection assembly of any one of claims 22 to 40, wherein the first component includes four of the first engagement portion, the four first engagement portions being opposed in pairs, each adjacent pair of first engagement portions being adapted to be connected to the second engagement portion of a respective second component via the third component.

42. The connection assembly of claim 41, wherein the first component defines a corner assembly for use in connecting thereto one or more second components, in the form of panels, for instance to construct a furniture piece or part thereof.

43. The connection assembly of any one of claims 41 to 42, wherein each adjacent pair of first engagement portions defines a first connection set.

44. The connection assembly of any one of claims 41 to 43, wherein a pair of second components are adapted to be mounted substantially perpendicularly with respect to one another by securing, via respective third components, the pair of second components to two adjacent first connection sets.

45. The connection assembly of any one of claims 41 to 44, wherein each adjacent pair of first connection sets are disposed perpendicularly to one another.

46. The connection assembly of any one of claims 41 to 45, wherein a finishing component is provided for attachment to each unused first connection set.

47. A method of connecting components into an assembly, comprising:

assembling first and second components having respectively first and second engagement portions such as to engage together the first and the second engagement portions to define a space therebetween; and

longitudinally introducing a third component in the space to forcibly displace the first and second engagement portions outwardly, thereby connecting the first and second components together.

48. The method of connection components into an assembly of claim 47, further comprising before the step of introducing the third component:

assembling the first component and a fourth component having respectively

31 a first-prime and fourth engagement portions such as to engage together the first and fourth engagement portions to define a second space,

wherein, when longitudinally introducing the third component, a third-prime component structurally combined with the third component is longitudinally introduced in the second space to forcibly displace the first-prime and fourth engagement portions outwardly, thereby connecting the first-prime component and the fourth component together.
