Abstract:
This constant velocity universal joint is provided with an outer joint member (11) having an opening section (17) at one end thereof, and also with an inner joint member (12) for transmitting torque while allowing an angular displacement between the outer joint member (11) and the inner joint member (12) with balls (13) therebetween. The large-diameter end (22) of a boot (21) for closing the opening section (17) of the outer joint member (11) is mounted to the opening section (17) of the outer joint member (11), the small-diameter end (23) of the boot (21) is mounted to a shaft (15) extending from the inner joint member (12), and a lubricating agent (20) is enclosed within the inner space (25) formed by the outer joint member (11) and the boot (21). Ball bearings (26, 27) for holding the boot (21) at a standstill relative to the rotation of the outer joint member (11) and the shaft (15) are disposed between the opening section (17) of the outer joint member (11) and the large-diameter end (22) of the boot (21), and between the shaft (15) and the small-diameter end (23) of the boot (21). A boot guard section (66) is provided to a boot mounting adapter (54) to which the small-diameter end (23) of the boot (21) is mounted, and the boot guard section (66) prevents the boot (21) from interfering with the shaft (15).
