Abstract:
A rotary fluid-displacement assembly and method comprise a housing having a longitudinal axis and a non-uniformly shaped inner wall surface, a rotor positioned within the internal cavity formed by the housing, a fixed cam having at least one cam profile slot, and at least one vane having a guide pin adapted to be inserted into and ride within the at least one cam profile slot.. The rotor can be configured to rotate about a rotor axis of rotation that is eccentric to the housing longitudinal axis. Each vane can be operatively associated with at least cam profile slot and can be configured to move radially from a first position, where the distal end of the vane lies a first distance from the peripheral surface of the rotor, to a second position, where the distal end of the vane lies a second distance from the peripheral surface of the rotor.
