Title:
CONSTRUCTIVE DISPOSAL ON TABLE WITH EXTENSIBLE TOP
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/2008/025112
Kind Code:
A1
Abstract:
The invention refers to a constructive disposal introduced to extendable table that makes possible to transform a longed top into a substantially circular top. The disposal on extendable table comprehends a structure formed by staffs (1) that interconnect the two extreme portions of the top (2) on which the feet (3) are adequately fixed. Supported by the two extreme portions (2) lays the longed principal top (4). Optionally, the shorter sides (5) of the principal top (4) present convex curves and the longer (6) concave curves. The extended table has the principal top (4) rotated and fitted in between the flat extreme portions (2), supported by the staffs (1 ). In this mode, the table starts having an area formed by the principal top (4) added by the extreme portions (2) presenting a substantially circular form. A first constructive option comprehends a structure formed by a staff (1') endowed with a central bearing (11) where turns an axle (41 ), fixed at the principal top. This mechanism permits guiding the rotating movement of the principal top (4), facilitating the transformation of the longed table into a circular one. Another option of the principal top's form (4") presents the bigger sides straight, as well as the internal (7) extreme portions (2") also resulting in a circular extended top.

Description:

"CONSTRUCTIVE DISPOSAL ON TABLE WITH EXTENSIBLE TOP"

The invention refers to an innovative constructive disposal introduced to extendable tables making possible the transformation of a longed top into a substantially round one, in a simple, practical and safe way.

There are known, since long date, tables endowed with extensible tops. A first type of extendable tables is formed by a conventional top and two extra portions of tops, inferiorly positioned, that slide out increasing the final area of the table. This kind of extensible top presents as a trouble the lack of stability, once the extended portions stay in overhang, transmitting to the user the sensation of instability. To minimize this inconvenience the extensible portions have stabilization arms that also act as sliding rails at the table's structure. Than, this is about a complex solution that demands a greater amount of material and assembly operations, as well as more difficulty to the user to extend the table's top.

Also known, are the tables with two overlapping tops dumping through hinges connected to an inferior top fixed at the table's structure, permitting the increasing of the top's area. This solution also presents stability problems of the mobile part of the top generating discomfort for the user. To support the extended parts of the top, supporting arms are demanded, sliding in the interior of the structure. Such proposal demands hinges throughout both sides of the stable top, increasing production costs and assembly operations compromising furniture's aesthetics.

Diverse other solutions to increase table tops were attempted, but, invariably, lead to material's increase and existence of some type of supporting mechanism and/or opening of the extensible portions leading to a onerous and complex assembly process, as well as imposing handling difficulties for the user.

It is, therefore, objective of the present invention a new constructive disposal introduced in tables with extensible tops that efficiently surpasses the listed limitations of the state of the art. This is achieved through a table that, whose structure presents two extreme and flat portions where lays the longed top. Whenever extension is desired, the top is elevated and rotated

fitting in between the flat extreme portions, shaping a top of bigger area and substantially circular.

Optionally, the table's structure may present an inferior and central axle guiding the top's rotation, facilitating the table's extension. The constructive disposal introduced in table with extensible top, object of present invention, results on following advantage in comparison with other extendable tables:

- The table's top is fully supported by the structure, even in the extended position, generating stability sensation to the user; - The shape of the top is peculiar, guaranteeing it's fit and break in the extended position;

- It doesn't demand any mechanism to change position;

- It has easy handle for the user;

- It results in great aesthetic quality. The disposal in table with extensible top, proposal of the present invention, can be better understood by the following detailed description, which is based on the enclosed drawings, listed below:

Figure 1 - frontal view of the table in with-drown top position;

Figure 2 - lateral view of the table in with-drown top position; Figure 3 - superior view of the table in with-drown top position;

Figure 4 - frontal view of the table with extended top;

Figure 5 - lateral view of the table with extended top;

Figure 6 - superior view of the table with extended top;

Figure 7 - frontal view of a first constructive option of the table; Figure 8 - lateral view of the constructive option of the table;

Figure 9 - superior view of the constructive option of the table;

Figure 10 - superior view of the second option of the table with extended top;

Figure 11 - superior view of the table in with-drown top position;

Figure12 - superior view of the third position with extended top; Figure 13 - superior view of the third position of the table in with-drown top position.

Figures 1 to 3 illustrates the new disposition in extendable table that comprehends a structure formed by staffs (1) that interconnect the

two extreme portions of the top (2), in which the feet (3) are adequately fixed. Supported by the flat extreme portions (2) lays the principal longed top (4).

Optionally, by mere aesthetics means, the shorter sides (5) of the principal top (4) present convex curves and the longer sides (6) concave curves.

Figures 4 to 6 details the extended table, having been the principal top (4) rotated and fit in between the flat extreme portions (2) laying on the staffs (1). In this mode, the table's top start having a area are formed by the principal top (4) added by the extreme portions (2), presenting a substantially circular form.

Figures 7 a 9 exemplify the first constructive option of the table, which structure can be formed by one staff (1) endowed with a central bearing

(11) where turns an axle (41) fixed in the principal top (4). This mechanism permits guiding the rotational movement of the principal top (4) facilitating for the user, the transformation of the longed table into circular table.

Figures 10 to 11 exemplify an option of the principal top form (4') and flat extreme portions (2') that results in a completely circular extended top.

Figures 12 to 13 exemplify another option of principal top form (4") that presents straight bigger sides, as well as internal sides (7) of flat extreme portions (2") also resulting in circular extended top.
