Abstract:
Provided is a contact mechanism, which has a flat structure that reduces the thickness of a moveable contactor in the direction in which the moveable contactor moves, and which has the ability to minimize electromagnetic repulsion which opens a moveable contactor when a current is applied. Also provided is an electromagnetic contactor that uses the contact mechanism. The contact mechanism (CM) comprises an immobile contactor (2) and the moveable contactor (3), which are inserted in a current path. The immobile contactor (2) comprises a pair of flat conductors (21a, 21b) disposed in an immobile manner so as to maintain a predetermined interval. The moveable contactor (3) comprises a flat conductor (30) positioned facing the pair of flat conductors (21a, 21b) of the immobile contactor in a contactable/releasable manner. Current paths (25a, 25b, 26a, 26b, 33a, 33b, 34a, 34b), through which the respective currents flow in the same direction, are formed at least on both sides in the width direction in which the moveable contactor (3) and the flat conductors of the immobile contact (2) face each other, and generate a Lorentz force that presses the moveable contactor (3) against the immobile contactor (2).
