Disclosed is a container that is formed by folding a sheet material. Despite the base of said container having straight sections, said container resists deformation and tearing. Also disclosed is a method for manufacturing said container. The disclosed container (1) formed by folding a sheet material (8) comprises: a base (2), the edge of which is formed from straight sections (2a) and arc sections (2b); and side walls (3) formed by folding the sheet material (8) up from the edges of the base (2) so as to enclose the base (2). The side walls (3) are formed in a corrugated fashion, comprising mountain folds (30) that protrude outwards and valley folds (31) that point inwards, repeatedly alternating around the edge of the base (2). Straight regions (3a) of the side walls (3), which are folded up from the straight sections (2a) of the base (2), are corrugated farther from the base (2) than arc regions (3b) of the side walls (3), which are folded up from the arc sections (2b) of the base (2).
