There is provided a content detection deice for a receiver of a digital broadcast signal or a recording device recording the digital broadcast signal. A program-related information acquisition unit acquires program specification information and information for creating an electronic program guide and causes a memory to store them. A detection unit detects a CM according to information on presence/absence of a superimposed broadcast or data broadcast and causes the memory to store the detected information. A judgment unit reads out the detected information and outputs a signal to distinguish a program from a CM. If the information in the program specification information and the information in the electronic program guide information in the memory are contradict with the presence/absence of the superimposed broadcast or the data broadcast, the detection unit causes the memory to store the information indicating the detection of the CM.
