Title:
CONTEXTUAL QUALITY OF SERVICE FOR MOBILE DEVICES
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/2024/011019
Kind Code:
A4
Abstract:
Techniques are provided for enabling contextual Quality of Service (QoS) of mobile services. An example method of generating an output based on a contextual quality of service includes obtaining an input with a device module, determining a context indicator based on the input, determining a quality of service based at least in part on the context indicator, and generating the output based at least in part on the input and the quality of service.

AMENDED CLAIMS received by the International Bureau on 29 February 2024 (29.02.2024)

1. A method of generating an output based on a contextual quality of service, comprising: obtaining an input with a device module; determining a context indicator based on the input; determining a quality of service based at least in part on the context indicator; and generating the output based at least in part on the input and the quality of service.

2. The method of claim 1 wherein the device module is an optical module and the input is an image.

3. The method of claim 2 wherein the context indicator is an object in the image.

4. The method of claim 3 wherein the object in the image is one or more of a plain text indicator, a quick response code, a visual light communication emitting device, or any combinations thereof.

5. The method of claim 1 wherein the device module is an acoustic module and the input is an acoustic input.

6. The method of claim 5 wherein the context indicator is an audio component within the acoustic input.

7. The method of claim 1 wherein the device module is a navigation module and the input includes radio frequency signals associated with terrestrial or satellite navigation.

8. The method of claim 7 wherein the context indicator is a position estimate based on the radio frequency signals.

AMENDED SHEET (ARTICLE 19)

9. The method of claim 1 further comprising: determining a context condition; and receiving context indicator information and quality of service rules based at least in part on the context condition.

10. The method of claim 9 wherein the context condition is one or more of a geofenced area, a schedule item, a network identifier, a user status, an application status, or any combinations thereof.

11. The method of claim 1 wherein generating the output includes applying a digital rights management feature to the output.

12. A method of operating a mobile device, comprising: determining an operational context for the mobile device based at least in part on a location of the mobile device, one or more preferences associated with a user of the mobile device, and a context indicator detected by one or more modules in the mobile device; and enabling or disabling one or more capabilities of the mobile device based on the operational context.

13. The method of claim 12 wherein the one or more modules includes at least one of an optical module, an acoustic module, a communications module, and a navigation module.

14. The method of claim 12 further comprising reducing a quality of service of an enabled capability of the mobile device based on the operational context.

15. The method of claim 12 wherein the context indicator detected by the one or more modules is contained in an image obtained by a camera, the method further comprising storing a transformed image file of the image obtained by the camera, wherein a resolution of the transformed image file is based at least in part on the operational context.

-72-

AMENDED SHEET (ARTICLE 19)

16. The method of claim 12 wherein the context indicator detected by the one or more modules includes one or more radio frequency signals associated with terrestrial or satellite navigation.

17. The method of claim 12 further comprising receiving context indicator information from a remote server based at least in part on the location of the mobile device and the one or more preferences associated with the user of the mobile device.

18. An apparatus, comprising: a memory; at least one transceiver; at least one processor communicatively coupled to the memory and the at least one transceiver, and configured to: obtain an input with a device module; determine a context indicator based on the input; determine a quality of service based at least in part on the context indicator; and generate an output based at least in part on the input and the quality of service.

19. The apparatus of claim 18 wherein the device module is an optical module and the input is an image.

20. The apparatus of claim 19 wherein the context indicator is an object in the image.

21. The apparatus of claim 20 wherein the object in the image is one or more of a plain text indicator, a quick response code, a visual light communication emitting device, or any combinations thereof.

22. The apparatus of claim 18 wherein the device module is an acoustic module and the input is an acoustic input.

-73-

AMENDED SHEET (ARTICLE 19)

23. The apparatus of claim 22 wherein the context indicator is an audio component within the acoustic input.

24. The apparatus of claim 18 wherein the device module is a navigation module and the input includes radio frequency signals associated with terrestrial or satellite navigation.

25. The apparatus of claim 24 wherein the context indicator is a position estimate based on the radio frequency signals.

26. The apparatus of claim 18 wherein the at least one processor is further configured to: determine a context condition; and receive context indicator information and quality of service rules based at least in part on the context condition.

27. The apparatus of claim 26 wherein the context condition is one or more of a geofenced area, a schedule item, a network identifier, a user status, an application status, or any combinations thereof.

28. The apparatus of claim 18 wherein the at least one processor is further configured to apply a digital rights management feature to the output.

29. An apparatus, comprising: a memory; at least one transceiver; at least one processor communicatively coupled to the memory and the at least one transceiver, and configured to: determine an operational context for a mobile device based at least in part on a location of the mobile device, one or more preferences associated with a user of the mobile device, and a context indicator detected by one or more modules in the mobile device; and

-74-

AMENDED SHEET (ARTICLE 19) enable or disable one or more capabilities of the mobile device based on the operational context.

30. The apparatus of claim 29 wherein the at least one processor is further configured to apply one or more quality of service rules associated with one or more of the location of the mobile device, the one or more preferences associated with the user of the mobile device, the context indicator, and any combinations thereof to enable or disable the one or more capabilities of the mobile device.
