A continuous annealing furnace (10) configured in such a manner that a material (1) to be treated which is introduced into the furnace through an inlet seal section (11) is continuously conveyed in an ambient gas, which contains hydrogen gas, from a heating zone (12) to cooling zones (13a-13c), cooled and annealed in the cooling zones after being indirectly heated in the heating zone, and withdrawn through an outlet seal section (16), wherein the continuous annealing furnace (10) comprises: an ambient gas supply device (20) for supplying the ambient gas into the continuous annealing furnace; a guide path (33) for guiding an excess portion of the ambient gas within the continuous annealing furnace to a combustion section of the heating zone; and an ambient gas control device (30) for controlling that the excess portion of the ambient gas is guided to the combustion section of the heating zone through the guide path.
