Provided is a cost-effective combustion device capable of being continuously operated without generating clinker even in the case of solid fuel containing incombustibles. In this combustion device, a screw conveyor (10) for conveying solid fuel directly thereabove to the center of the inside of a furnace body having a vertical cylindrical outer wall (1) is provided in a standing manner. At the upper end of a casing tube (11) of the screw conveyor (10), a ring-shaped fire grate (15) that is gradually inclined downward toward the outside is fixedly provided, a rotating shaft (13) of the screw conveyor (10) is hollow, and hollow stirring blades (14) are fixedly provided in the upper end portion thereof. A middle wall (4) concentric with the outer wall (1) is provided above the screw conveyor (10), and since not only combustion air that is being swirled is supplied from above between the outer wall (1) and the middle wall (4), but also the combustion air is supplied from the inside of solid fuel in a combustion part, a large number of jet holes (13a, 14a) are provided in the upper end portion of the rotating shaft (13) and the stirring blades (14).
