Title:
CONTINUOUSLY VARIABLE TRANSMISSION APPARATUS
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/2003/019044
Kind Code:
A1
Abstract:
A continuously variable transmission apparatus includes a plurality of balls (36) driven to rotate by a central wheel (34), the same number of power rollers (40) as the balls (36) supported and driven to rotate by two adjacent balls, and power wheels (48, 50) having engagement portions of greater diameter than the orbit of a rotation shaft (40a) of the rollers and arranged so as to sandwich the rollers (40) and press a slanting surface (44) of each roller at each engagement portion, so that the rollers and the balls are retained at an identical interval around the central wheel. By moving the power wheels in the axial direction and modifying the inclination of the rollers (40), it is possible to modify the distance between the rotation shaft (40a) of the rollers and the engagement positions (43, 45) of the engagement portions. By disabling rotation of one (48) of the power wheels, a rotation input of the central wheel (34) can be extracted as a rotation output from the other power wheel (50) via the balls (36) and the rollers (40).
