Abstract:
Provided is a control apparatus for an internal combustion engine, wherein the quantity of intake air supplied to a combustion chamber can be appropriately controlled when an internal combustion engine is in a deceleration driving condition, so that an accidental fire caused in the internal combustion engine can be avoided, and an excellent drivability can be ensured. In the control apparatus, a target auxiliary intake air quantity (SAIRCMD) necessary to avoid an accidental fire in the internal combustion engine by supplying only auxiliary intake air to a combustion chamber, and a target intake air quantity (GAIRCMD) which is a target value of the quantity of intake air supplied to the combustion chamber, are calculated in accordance with the driving conditions (NE, AP) of the internal combustion engine (Steps 7, 8, and 1); and an accidental fire avoidance control is performed, wherein, when the internal combustion engine is in a deceleration drive condition, and it is determined that there is a high possibility that an accidental fire may occur, an auxiliary intake air quantity control valve is controlled to open so that the auxiliary intake air quantity reaches the target auxiliary intake air quantity (SAIRCMD), and a throttle valve is controlled to close so that the quantity of intake air supplied to the combustion chamber reaches the target intake air quantity (GAIRCMD) (Steps 9 to 11).
