Abstract:
This control device for a compression ignition type engine is applied to an engine that enables partial compression ignition combustion in which CI combustion of at least part of an air-fuel mixture is caused by self-ignition. A combustion control unit of the control device generates an A/F lean environment where an air-fuel ratio, which is the ratio of air to fuel in a cylinder, is more than 20 but less than 35 or generates a G/F lean environment where a gas-fuel ratio, which is the ratio of entire gas to fuel in the cylinder, is more than 18 but less than 50 and where the air-fuel ratio substantially coincides with a theoretical air-fuel ratio. Prior to the scheduled timing of the CI combustion, an ignition control unit causes a spark plug to execute first ignition, in the A/F lean environment or in the G/F lean environment, by generating a spark and forming a high-temperature portion.
