Abstract:
This control device, which controls a headlight device, uses a luminance sensor and repeatedly executes processing to measure the brightness ahead of a vehicle. For example, if there is a curved road section ahead of the vehicle, the brightness of the road surface or the guardrail in a specific area (the area illuminated by light from the headlight device of another vehicle ahead) of the road section is measured. The change (∆) in brightness between the measurement and a previous measurement is then calculated (S160). If the change (∆) is greater than or equal to a threshold (TH) (Yes in S170), a prediction is made that a vehicle which is not yet within the field of view ahead of the first vehicle will newly appear (S180), and the illumination mode of the light from the headlight device is changed so as to darken the area where the other vehicle will appear (S185, S190, S195).
