Provided is a low-cost control device for a DC motor, the control device having a function of detecting an absolute rotation angle of a rotary shaft. This motor control device is provided with a control unit and an MR sensor unit having a pair of MR sensors, and controls the power supplied via a brush to an armature fixed to the rotary shaft. The MR sensor unit generates and outputs, on the basis of the outputs of the pair of MR sensors, incremental A-phase and B-phase signals according to the rotation of the rotary shaft, and generates and outputs positioning information indicating the state in which the A-phase and B-phase output signals have a specific relationship. The control unit is configured to: start and operate the DC motor in forward and reverse directions at a predetermined rotation speed in response to an initialization drive signal; acquire the positioning information obtained from the MR sensor unit by operating the DC motor and acquire information about a relative origin position (Zα) of the MR sensor with respect to the rotary shaft from the synchronization relationship of the A-phase and B-phase output signals and the initialization drive signal; and convert all of the data about the information about the A-phase, the B-phase, and the relative origin position into absolute signal data and record the data into an EEPROM.
