Provided is a control device for a hybrid vehicle, the control device allowing a vehicle to be rapidly switched to four-wheel drive mode without any discomfort to the driver when the vehicle is switched to the four-wheel drive mode while traveling in an EV travel zone. When it is predicted that the vehicle will need to be switched to the four-wheel drive mode, a first clutch and a second clutch (C2) are engaged in order to start the engine (14) to thereby enable rapid switching to the four-wheel drive mode once it is decided that there is an actual need for the vehicle to be switched to the four-wheel drive mode. Specifically, pre-starting the engine (14) allows the vehicle to be switched to the four-wheel drive mode more rapidly by the equivalent of the time needed to start the engine (14).
