Abstract:
Provided is a control device for an internal combustion engine capable of quite adequately suppressing a new air inflow to a catalyst due to a motion delay of a valve stop mechanism when a request for the execution of a fuel cut is issued. The control device for the internal combustion engine is provided with a valve stop mechanism (98) in which the motion state of an intake valve (60) and an exhaust valve (62) can be changed between a valve operating state and a valve closed/stopped state. The control device for the internal combustion engine changes the motion state of the intake and exhaust valves (60, 62) to the valve closed/stopped state when an engine rotation speed falls to not more than a predetermined rotation speed if the engine rotation speed is higher than the predetermined rotation speed in the case in which the request for the execution of the fuel cut is detected during the operation of an internal combustion engine (12), and the temperature of a catalyst (68) is not less than a predetermined temperature.
