Abstract:
This control device (100) for an internal combustion engine (1) is equipped with: a variable valve-driving mechanism (10) that is capable of changing the intake valve duration while keeping the maximum lift amount and opening time of an intake valve (19) constant; a reduction catalyst (9) that adsorbs nitrogen oxides in exhaust emission during lean combustion and reduces the adsorbed nitrogen oxides during rich combustion; and a control unit (4) that, when switching to the rich combustion, changes, according to a load (TL, TH) on the internal combustion engine (1), the amount of advance angle (∆IVCL, ∆IVCH) of the intake valve (19) when the intake valve is closed.
