Abstract:
In a non-EGR region, which is a low-load operating region, an EGR control valve (21) is opened with a specific, extremely small degree of opening M, which corresponds to an extremely small EGR rate that does not affect the ignition timing. Thus, the interior of an EGR passage (20) essentially becomes filled with EGR gas, so when the EGR control valve (21) is opened and the operating state changes from the non-EGR region to the EGR region so as to achieve the target EGR rate, the desired amount of EGR gas is introduced into an intake passage (2) at virtually the same time as the opening of the EGR control valve (21), and the actual EGR rate can be made to conform to the target EGR rate with good responsiveness.
