Abstract:
In order to ensure that an internal combustion engine can exhibit the output performance inherent thereto while suitably inhibiting abnormal combustion, a control device for an internal combustion engine is configured so as to control an internal combustion engine equipped with a variable valve timing mechanism that can change the opening timing and/or closing timing of an intake valve to vary the actual combustion ratio of a cylinder; wherein the upper limit of the opening degree of a throttle valve while the actual combustion ratio of the cylinder is high is set to be higher than the upper limit of the opening degree of the throttle valve while the actual combustion ratio of the cylinder is low, and when the current opening degree of the throttle valve exceeds the upper limit that should be in effect and the difference therebetween has increased by at least a predetermined amount, either a correction is made to the amount of increase in the fuel injection amount, or fuel injection is temporarily stopped.
