Abstract:
The purpose of the present invention is to suppress emission of NOx when switching from SI to SCCI while appropriately preventing a fluctuation of torque due to a misfire or irregular combustion. The control device for an internal combustion engine is for performing multiple combustion modes with air-fuel ratios in a cylinder 7 and compression end temperatures differing from each other. At some point during switching from one of the combustion modes to the other combustion mode, an intermediate combustion mode is performed so as to increase the compression end temperature while maintaining an air-fuel ratio which is different from the air-fuel ratio in the one combustion mode and the air-fuel ratio in the other combustion mode. Thus, the temperature and the air-fuel ratio in the cylinder 7 are appropriately controlled during switching between an operation mode for SI and an operation mode for HCCI, thereby suppressing the emission of NOx while appropriately preventing a fluctuation of torque due to a misfire or irregular combustion.
