Abstract:
Precisely estimating the change over time in the minimum advance for best torque (MBT) of an engine cylinder without incurring heavy calculation load has been difficult in the past. The purpose of the present invention is to provide a control device capable of detecting the change over time in the MBT of each cylinder. The control device for the internal combustion engine is characterized by being provided with a control unit (CPU) which estimates the optimum ignition timing for the cylinder from the relationship between the phase angle (θTmax) at which torque peaks and phase angle (θPmax) at which cylinder pressure peaks, both relative to cylinder firings.
