Abstract:
A control device for an internal combustion engine is configured so as to reduce load at startup, and enable excellent startup while reducing unburned hydrocarbon. The control device is provided with a startup load reduction unit for controlling an electric actuator M of a valve opening/closing timing control mechanism in such a manner that the opening/closing timing of an intake valve is set to the most retarded angle thereof upon cranking being initiated by the driving of a starter motor, and following the initiation of cranking, the opening/closing timing of the intake valve is advanced sometime before an ignition control unit achieves initial combustion in any one of the multiple combustion chambers.
