Abstract:
In order to improve the ignitability of a fuel by a spark plug while suppressing the enlargement of a spark coil, this control device for an internal combustion engine comprises: a spark control unit 83 that controls the conduction of a spark coil 300a and a spark coil 300b each applying electrical energy to a spark plug, said spark plug discharging within a cylinder of the internal combustion engine to ignite the fuel; and a discharge amount detection unit that detects the voltage between electrodes of the spark plug. The spark control unit 83 controls the conduction of the spark coils such that after the electrical energy of the spark coil 300a has been used to cause the spark plug to discharge, the voltage that can be supplied from the spark coil 300a to the spark plug is estimated, and if the difference d between the estimated voltage that can be supplied and a required voltage that is based on the voltage detected by the discharge amount detection unit becomes less than or equal to a prescribed threshold value, the electrical energy of the spark coil 300b is supplied to the spark plug.
