Abstract:
This control device is for controlling a hybrid vehicle, which travels by using an electric motor as a driving source when in an EV mode, or starts an internal combustion engine by using at least the output of the electric motor in order to travel by using the internal combustion engine and the electric motor when in an HEV mode, and includes an expansion stroke combustion possibility determination unit that determines whether or not the internal combustion engine can be cranked by using a combustion pressure that is generated by supplying a fuel to a cylinder in an expansion stroke and igniting the fuel; an EV range setting unit that sets a traveling range in the EV mode in accordance with the determination made by the expansion stroke combustion possibility determination unit; and a traveling mode setting unit that causes the vehicle to travel in the EV mode if a driving torque required by the vehicle is within the EV mode traveling range, or travel in the HEV mode if out of the EV mode traveling range.
