Abstract:
The control device and control method for an internal combustion engine of the invention of the present application involve setting the relative angle of an exhaust camshaft with respect to a crankshaft to a reference phase angle when an abnormality of a crank angle signal has occurred, detecting the relative angle of an intake camshaft with respect to the crankshaft on the basis of intake cam signal CAMint and exhaust cam signal CAMexh, and furthermore, configuring the phase difference between the exhaust cam signal CAM when the relative angle of the exhaust camshaft is controlled to the reference phase angle and the intake camshaft signal CAMint when the relative angle of the intake camshaft has a target value such that the phase difference therebetween is greater after the internal combustion engine has been started than during the starting state thereof.
