Abstract:
According to the present invention, during control of a variable valve timing mechanism capable of using rotational output of a motor to change the rotational phase of a cam shaft with respect to a crank shaft of an internal combustion engine, a detection value of the rotational phase is periodically acquired on the basis of an output signal of a crank angle sensor that detects an angular position of the crank shaft and an output signal of a cam angle sensor that detects an angular position of the cam shaft, an estimation value of the rotational phase in an interval of the periodic acquisition of the detection value is computed with reference to a previously acquired detection value, and phase feedback control is performed using the motor so that the computed estimation value approaches a target value. During the phase feedback control, the estimation value is computed so as to change faster than an actual value of the rotational phase toward the target value.
