A control device for a vehicle drive device is called for that is capable of reserving hydraulic oil for both a first and a second engagement device, suppressing reduction in durability caused by heat generated by the second engagement device, and starting vehicle movement forward with good responsiveness to a start-movement request for the vehicle, in the event that a start-movement request for the vehicle has been made while the internal combustion engine is rotating and both engagement devices have been released. In the event that a change in shift range from a stop range to a travel range has been detected while the internal combustion engine is rotating, and both the first engagement device and the second engagement device have been released, the control device for a vehicle drive device starts engagement of the second engagement device, starts engagements of the first engagement device after starting engagement of the second engagement device, and increases the output torque for a rotating electrical motor from zero at the same time that the engagement of the first engagement device is started or before the engagement of the first engagement device is started.
