Abstract:
An internal combustion engine (1) comprises: an exhaust recirculation device having an exhaust recirculation control valve (9); a crank angle sensor (11) for detecting illustrated average effective pressure volatility (cPi), which is an indicator of the combustion stability of the internal combustion engine (1); and a controller (10) that corrects the EGR rate of the exhaust recirculation device on the basis of the combustion stability. The controller (10) increases and corrects the EGR rate by a predetermined amount when the state in which the illustrated average effective pressure volatility (cPi) is less than the threshold value continues for a predetermined number of cycles. The EGR rate is immediately reduced and corrected when the illustrated average effective pressure volatility (cPi) is equal to or greater than a threshold value.
