Abstract:
A controller acquires an excavation start position for a work machine. When the current topography includes an uphill gradient and a downhill gradient positioned forward of the uphill gradient, and the excavation start position is positioned on the uphill gradient, the controller determines a first virtual design surface that includes a first design surface that is positioned below the current topography, and is inclined more gradually than the uphill gradient. The controller generates a command signal to cause the work machine to move along the first virtual design surface.
