Abstract:
The present invention addresses the problem of providing: a damping force generation mechanism (control valve device) including a spring device that is provided with two change points of spring load characteristics, thereby achieving a high degree of freedom for adjusting the spring constant; and a shock absorber that satisfies, at a high level, the riding comfort, sound vibration performance, and steering stability of a vehicle. The present invention is a control valve device (damping force generation mechanism (31)) comprising: a housing (62) in which an opening through which working fluid passes is provided; a valve body (78) that is provided in the housing and that opens and closes the opening; a valve seat (79) which is provided in the opening and to which the valve body makes contact in a separable manner; an actuator (101) that moves the valve body in a direction toward the valve seat; and a spring device (120) that urges the valve body in a direction separating from the valve seat. The spring device has spring load characteristics defined into a first section, a second section, and a third section by two change points (C1, C2) along a direction from the side on which the valve body is separated from the valve seat toward the side on which the valve body approaches the valve seat.
