Abstract:
A controller of an in-cylinder spark ignition internal combustion engine switches a control mode in accordance with the engine operating condition between a compression stroke injection mode control under which the fuel is injected during a compression stroke and laminar combustion is effected and an intake stroke injection mode control under which the fuel is injected during an intake stroke and uniform mixing and combustion are effected. When a regular gasoline having a lower octane value than that of a premium gasoline is used, the octane value of a target mean effective pressure (Pe) set in accordance with the throttle opening ($g(u) th) is corrected so that the engine output before and after the mode switching is compensated so as to thereby prevent a torque shock at the time of mode switching.
