Abstract:
 An internal combustion engine is provided with a plurality of cylinders, air intake valves (31) provided to each of the plurality of cylinders, and a variable valve mechanism (600) for varying the valve characteristics of the air intake valves (31). A motor (210) drives the variable valve mechanism (600). A motor controller (150) controls the motor (210). The internal combustion engine is capable of operating in a cylinder stop mode, in which the air intake valves (31) of some of the cylinders are kept shut. When the internal combustion engine returns from the cylinder stop mode, the motor controller (150) executes an air intake amount correction process in which the period over which the air intake valves (31) are open is temporarily increased, thereby increasing the amount of air taken in by working cylinders for which the air intake valves (31) had been opened or closed even during the cylinder stop mode.
