When speed is changed by a stepless transmission and a clutch is engaged, a variation in torque inputted into the clutch is suppressed. A controller for a vehicle drive device that has a reaction force generation device for controlling the transmission ratio of the stepless transmission and also has the clutch provided in a power transmission route from the stepless transmission up to wheels, and in which torque capacity of the clutch is controllable. The controller has first input torque control means that reduces, while the torque capacity of the clutch is controlled, torque inputted via the stepless transmission to the clutch, and the torque reduction is made by controlling torque of the reaction force generation device.
