The present invention relates to the technical field of terminals, and relates to a cooking apparatus operation method and device. The method comprises: during an operation process of a cooking apparatus, acquiring, if a water level of the cooking apparatus exceeds a predetermined water level, a current operation mode (101); determining, according to the current operation mode, a target operation mode having a heating power smaller than the heating power of the current operation mode (102); and switching from the current operation mode to the target operation mode (103). By employing an operation mode having a lower heating power than the heating power of a current operation mode if a water level of the cooking apparatus is higher than a predetermined water level, indicating that a boil-over is soon to occur, the present invention prevents a boil-over of the cooking apparatus and provides adjustability of an operation mode.
