Abstract:
The invention provides a means for improving an unsaturated polyalkylene glycol
copolymer expectative as a detergent builder in the ability to inhibit soil redeposition.
A copolymer which comprises repeating units (I) derived from an unsaturated
polyalkylene glycol monomer (A) represented by chemical formula (1) and repeating
units (II) derived from a (meth)acrylic acid type monomer (B) and bears sulfur-containing
groups at the ends and which has an S value (quantity of sulfur introduced) of 3
or above as defined by the formula: S = (quantity of S contained in the polymer)/(total
quantity of S) x 100, characterized in that the content of the repeating units
(I) derived from the monomer (A) is at least 30% by mass when the mass of the whole
copolymer is taken as 100% by mass (with the proviso that the mass of the repeating
units (II) is in terms of acid type) or in that the weight-average molecular weight
is 7000 or above.
