Abstract:

A crucible for melting a rare earth element alloy containing, as primary cpmponents, one or more selected from rare earth element oxides including Y₂O₃ and at least one of Al₂O₃and Al₂TiO₅, characterized in that it is prepared trough the firing at 500 to 1800°C in the case of that containing no Al₂TiO₅ or at 1000 to 1700°C in the case of that containing no Al₂TiO₅, that the rare earth element oxide is distributed in a finer part of a material for the firing having a particle diameter of 0.5 mm or less in a percentage higher than that of a coarser part of the material having a particle diameter of greater than 0.5 mm, and that it contains substantially no reaction products of the above rare earth element oxide with the at least one of Al₂O₃and Al₂TiO₅&semi and a rare earth element alloy produced by the use of the crucible.
