Abstract:
Provided is a cubic boron nitride sintered compact comprising cubic boron nitride particles in an amount of 20-80 vol.%, and a bonded phase in an amount of 20-80 vol.%. The bonded phase includes at least one selected from the group consisting of: compounds formed from titanium, one or both of nitrogen and carbon, and at least one element selected from the group consisting of zirconium, hafnium, group 5 elements of the period table, group 6 elements of the periodic table, and aluminum; and solid solutions derived from the aforementioned compound. When the bonded phase is observed using a transmission electron microscope, the area ratio of black regions in at least one crystal grain included in the bonded phase is 35-98%.
