Abstract:

Provided is a currency classification device (100) which classifies types of currency using images of currency, said device comprising a feature value computation unit (140), a storage unit (100), and an output unit (170). For images of all types of currency which are candidates for classification, the feature value computation unit (140) computes feature values of the images from common image regions. The storage unit (100) stores, as templates for each of the types of currency, the feature values which are computed by the feature value computation unit (140) from teaching images which are models of the currency. The output unit (170) outputs, as a classification result, the type of currency which corresponds to the template for which the similarity between a) the feature values which are computed by the feature value computation unit (140) from an inputted image which is an image of currency which is to be classified and b) the templates which are stored in the storage unit (100) reaches a maximum.
