Abstract:
A currency discriminating device having a reduced possibility of accepting a counterfeit currency and minimizing a decrease in sales opportunities caused by insertion of a counterfeit currency. A currency discriminating device is provided with: a denomination discriminating device (20) for discriminating the authenticity and denomination of an inserted currency (2); a coin sorting device (30) for accepting an inserted currency (2) which has been determined to be genuine by the denomination discriminating device (20) and returning an inserted currency (2) which has been determined to be a counterfeit by the denomination discriminating device (20); and a control device (100) which, when an inserted currency (2) is determined to be a counterfeit in a normal mode by the denomination discriminating device (20), changes to an acceptance prohibiting mode for controlling the coin sorting device (30) so as to return a following inserted currency (2), and when an inserted currency (2) is determined to be genuine in the acceptance prohibiting mode by the denomination discriminating device (20), controls the coin sorting device (30) so as to return the inserted currency (2) and changes to the normal mode.
