Abstract:

[Problem] To maintain the shape of a compressed airbag by using a simple and compact structure. In addition, to control a deployment direction of the airbag by using a simple structure. Furthermore, to resolve a failure caused by the airbag contacting a structure inside the vehicle cabin such as a pillar garnish when the airbag is deployed. [Solution] The present invention comprises a cover member (18) that shapes an airbag (12) into in an elongated shape when the airbag (12) is folded or rolled up, and that covers an outer periphery of the airbag (12) along at least part of the airbag (12) in a longitudinal direction. The cover member (18) is molded using a ductile fabric material that contains a plurality of polymer fibers and is configured to maintain the shape of the airbag due to at least some of the polymer fibers being fused together. The cover member (18) is characterized by being configured such that a high-rigidity portion (25), which has higher rigidity than the rest of the cover member (18), is formed as a result of part of the ductile fabric material being folded more than the rest of the cover member.
