Abstract:
A curtain suspension device comprises an arm (12, 13, 14) mounted into a wall fixture (11) in such a manner that it can be swung. The arm has a joint (13) at the centre that allows the outer part (14) of the arm to pivot such that it lies adjacent to the inner part (12) of the arm, The arm is arranged to support one broad panel curtain (30) or two narrower panel curtains (25, 26, 27) and can be swung in its wall fixture by 180°.

Claims
1. A curtain suspension device, characterised by an arm (12, 13, 14) mounted into a wall fixture (11) in such a manner that it can be swung, which arm has a joint (13) at the centre that allows the outer part (14) of the arm to pivot such that it lies adjacent to the inner part (12) of the arm, whereby the arm is arranged to support a panel curtain (25, 26, 27, 30) and can be swung in its wall fixture by 180°.
2. The curtain suspension device according to claim 1, characterised in that the joint (13) is designed to allow the outer part (14) of the arm to pivot in both directions such that it lies adjacent to the inner part (12) of the arm.
3. The curtain suspension device according to claim 2, characterised in that the joint (13) comprises fixed gear rims (20, 21) on the inner and outer parts (12, 13) of the arm, and in that these gear rims interact with each other and are mounted on bearings in an intermediate piece (24).
4. The curtain suspension device according to claim 2 or 3, characterised in that the joint (13) has a transverse dimension that is a maximum of 20% greater than that of the arm parts (12, 14).
5. The curtain suspension device according to any one of the preceding claims, characterised in that the inner arm (12) comprises a tube with an end that is bent at right angle and mounted in the fixture (11) such that it can rotate in the fixture.
6. The curtain suspension device according to any one of the preceding claims, characterised in that the arm (12, 13, 14) supports a panel curtain (30) that extends over the joint (13).
7. The curtain suspension device according to claim 6, characterised by two rigid members (29) in the lower edge of the curtain with a gap between them that corresponds to the position of the joint (13).
8. The curtain suspension device according to any one of claims 15, characterised in that each one of the arm parts (12, 14) supports a panel curtain (25, 26).

The present invention relates to a curtain suspension device.

Aim and Brief Description of the Invention

It is one aim of the invention to provide a flexible curtain suspension device that allows the placement of the curtains to be changed in a very easy manner. This is achieved by an arm mounted in a wall fixture such that it can be swung, which arm has a joint in the centre that allows the outer part of the arm to be folded backwards in both directions such that it lies adjacent to the inner part of the arm, whereby the arm is arranged to support a panel curtain, and is able to be swung by 180° in the wall mounting.

Description of Illustrated and Preferred Embodiment

Figures 1 and 2 show a wall fixture 11 into which a swingable arm 12, 13, 14 is mounted such that it can be swung around 180°. The arm comprises a tube, the end of which is bent at a right angle and inserted into the wall fixture 11. The wall fixture may be manufactured from, for example, wood or metal, and it may have a cylindrical hole that accommodates the end of the arm.

The swingable arm comprises an inner arm 12, a joint 13 and an outer arm 14. The joint 13 is shown in Figures 3-7. The two arms have fixed toothed collars 20, 21 that interact with each other by being attached by screws 22, 23 into an intermediate piece 24 such that they can rotate

around the screws, thus being mounted in bearings in the intermediate piece. The outer arm 14 can in this way be pivoted backwards in both directions from the central position shown in Figure 3 to lie fully adjacent to the inner arm 12, as is shown in Figure 7.

Figure 8 shows a window with a swingable arm of the type described above on each side of the window. The curtains 25, 26, 27 of the arms are shown in the figure. The curtains will be suspended flatly, i.e. they form panels. Curtains of this type are known as "panel curtains". It is appropriate that the curtains have a channel 28 sewn at the upper side into which the pivoted arm can be placed. The joint 13 is so slim that the curtain can be passed over it. The joint should not be more than 20% broader than the arms 12, 14, for aesthetic reasons. It is appropriate if a channel is sewn also at the bottom of all curtains and a rigid rod is placed into it to stabilise the curtains. It is an alternative to form the channels with the aid of curtain tape or Velcro fastening.

The swingable arm is shown stretched out over the window at one side of the window, and it is shown folded double on the other side. With both arms folded and swung out over the window, only the sides of the window are covered, and with both arms extended over the window the complete window is covered. It is possible to choose which side of the curtain it is desired to have visible in the room by folding an arm at one side or the other.

It is also possible to have a curtain 30 along the complete length of the arm, as an alternative to having one curtain on the inner arm and one on the outer arm. It is possible in this way to cover the complete window without any gaps, as is shown in Figure 9. The channel 29 in this case is sewn off at the centre with a seam 31 and two rods are used; one that is equivalent to the inner arm 12 and one that is equivalent to the outer arm 14 such that the gap between them at the seam 31 corresponds to the location of the joint (13). The fold in this case will be stabilised by these rigid elements at the lower edge of the curtain when the arm is folded double and the curtain will hang flatly also when it is hanging double.
