Abstract:
Disclosed is a cutter head (20) for underwater mining machines which is incorporated into an underwater mining machine located on an underwater bottom to excavate the underwater bottom. The cutter head (20) includes a cylindrical cutter drum (21) and a suction port (28). The cutter drum (21) is disposed on each of the sides that form a regular polygon in a plan view and provided on the outer circumferential surface thereof with bits (26). The cutter drum is rotated by a first drive source around a first rotating axis. The suction port (28) is disposed at the central portion of the regular polygon to receive the excavated muck that is excavated with the bits (26). The cutter drum (21) is set in such a rotational direction that allows the bits (26) to sequentially advance toward the suction port (28).
