Abstract:
The present invention has an insert body (1) provided with two hexagonal surfaces (2) facing away from each other and six side surfaces (3) provided around the hexagonal surfaces (2), the insert body (1) having front-rear inversion symmetry as well as 120° rotational symmetry about an insert center line (C) passing through the centers of the two hexagonal surfaces (2). Main cutting edges (5) and auxiliary cutting edges (6) are formed on the twelve intersecting ridges at which the hexagonal surfaces (2) and the side surfaces (3) intersect, the cutting edges (5, 6) being formed such that around a hexagonal surface (2), the main cutting edges (5) and the auxiliary cutting edges (6) are alternately positioned along the peripheral direction, and around a side surface (3), a main cutting edge (5) is positioned at the intersecting ridge intersecting with one of the hexagonal surfaces (2) and an auxiliary cutting edge (6) is positioned at the intersecting ridge intersecting with the other of the hexagonal surfaces (2). A main flank surface (11) continuous with the main cutting edge (5) and an auxiliary flank surface (12) continuous with the auxiliary cutting edge (6) are formed on the side surfaces (3) so as to bend in a concave shape in a cross-section along the insert center line (C).
