Abstract:
One aspect of the invention provides a cutting insert (1) provided with an insert body (13), and multiple projections (15) integrally provided at external positions of the insert body (13). Each projection (15) comprises a cutting blade (23), a projection top surface, a projection bottom surface, two projection side surfaces, and a projection side end surface extending therebetween. A corner rounded surface (33) extending between the projection top surface and projection side end surface is formed on each projection (15). To provide corners formed along the edge of the corner rounded surface, and to enable the projection end surfaces to be cutting faces, each cutting blade (23) is formed along the ridgeline portions where the projection top surface, corner rounded surface and projection side end surface intersect with the projection side surfaces. The projections (15) are designed so that the length between two projection side surfaces (29) is shorter than the diameter (IC) of an incircle set out in the body top surface.
