Abstract:
[Problem] To provide a cutting insert having low cutting resistance and excellent chip-discharging properties. [Solution] In one embodiment of the present invention, a cutting insert (1) is provided with an upper surface (2), a lower surface (3), lateral surfaces (4), and a cutting edge (5) that is provided at the point of intersection of the upper surface (2) and the lateral surfaces (4). The upper surface is provided with (2) a rake surface is contiguous with the cutting edge (5), and the rake surface is positioned in correspondence with the center of the cutting edge (5). Said rake surface has a first rake surface (21) which slants downwards as it extends away from cutting edge (5) or runs parallel to horizontal surface (L) at the point of intersection, and a pair of second rake surfaces (22) which are positioned on both sides of the first rake surface (21), and slant upwards while extending away from the cutting edge (5). Said second rake surfaces have indentations (221b,c). Also provided are a cutting tool equipped with said cutting insert and a method for producing a cut product using said cutting tool.
