Abstract:
Disclosed is a cutting insert that can perform both boring and end milling and uses an increased number of cutting edges. Also disclosed is a cutting tool using said cutting insert. The disclosed cutting insert (1), which is removably mounted to an attachment seat on the body of a cutting tool, has rake faces (2 and 3), a flank (4), and cutting edges (5) formed where the rake faces (2 and 3) intersect the flank (4). The flank (4), formed on the sides of the cutting insert, comprises an upper flank (4a) which intersects the top rake face (2) and a lower flank (4b) which intersects the bottom rake face (3). The upper flank (4a) and the lower flank (4b) are each formed at an angle so as to have positive clearance angles. The top cutting edge (5a) and the bottom cutting edge (5b) are rotationally symmetric about at least one axis orthogonal to the centerline (O) of the cutting insert (1).
