Abstract:

Provided are a cutting method and a cutting device for a brittle material substrate, by which the brittle material substrate can be cut without making the device complicated and the quality of a cut surface can be increased, as well as a vehicle window glass obtained by the cutting method. A method for cutting a brittle material substrate (G) along first and second cut lines (L1-1, L1-2) which intersect each other at least at one point, wherein the method comprises a first step for forming scribe lines (L2-1 and L2-2) on a substrate surface (G1) along the first and second cut lines (L1-1, L1-2), and a second step wherein a laser beam irradiation position (A) on the substrate surface (G1) is relatively moved along the scribe lines (L2-1 and L2-2), and the substrate (G) is cut at the upstream side of the irradiation position (A) in the moving direction, wherein irradiation of the laser beam is restricted at the inner sides of the areas (J and K) which are near the intersection points (C and D) where the first and second cut lines (L1-1, L1-2) intersect.
